Special Relativity

Special Relativity

Special relativity is a topic that always interests students because of the many counter intuitive ideas it introduces - time progressing at different rates, lengths and masses changing, the limiting speed of light and so on. Einstein's most famous equation also peaks the interest - just why is it so famous and what exactly does it mean?

Special relativity does appear on some A level specifications but not all and it would be a shame if students finished their A level studies without knowing something about one of the all time greatest achievements in physics.

There are many different approaches to studying special relativity and many excellent books which explain its concepts. Here you will find only an introduction - something to whet the appetite so that students can go and delve further for themselves.
